STATUS: MMA Welterweight fighter.

HT: 5-10 WT: 180

DOB: December 31, 1981

IN: Albuquerque, New Mexico

CHILDHOOD HEROES: “Definitely Jean Claude Van Damme as a movie star. Dan Gable. Randy Couture.”

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: “Surfing, kite surfing, snowboard, shoot guns. What else do I do…drag racing.”

NICKNAMES: “Superstar, Vitamin D. Let me think back to my high school days…Dirty D in football.”

FAVORITE MOVIES: “Favorite movies would be Gladiator, Braveheart - two classics - V For Vendetta, Bloodsport, Pulp Fiction.”

FAVORITE TV SHOWS: “History Channel. I don’t watch too much TV.”

MUSICAL TASTES: “House music CDs from deejays, reggaeton, I like hip-hop, rock, oldies. I listen to everything.”

FIRST JOB: “Busser at a Mexican restaurant (Gardunos).”

FIRST CAR: “‘88 Mustang GT (red).”

CURRENT CAR: “Black Scion XP - from the show.”

FAVORITE MEAL: “My favorite food truly is grapefruits. I could eat like ten grapefruits in a row [smiles]. Meal - I like Italian. Or all natural filet mignon.”

FAVORITE BREAKFAST CEREAL: “That’s tough. I’ll go with Multi Grain.”

FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR: “Cookie dough.”

EARLY FIGHTING MEMORY: “My first fight, I was fighting Michael Johnson in Denver. In 2001. High altitude. I got caught in the first five seconds - straight right right down the pipe, right on the nose. It cut me. I remember going back to the corner thinking, Is this really what I want to do for a living? Then I said to myself, I can’t lose to this guy though. I went out there and beat him - rear naked choke in the 2nd round. I was bleeding so bad too.”

PRE-FIGHT FEELING: “War. I feel like I’m going to war. And excitement. Best way to put it is - Excitement for war. I don’t get nervous or scared really. Just get ready to fight. So fun, you know. Excitement for war.”

GREATEST SPORTS MOMENT: “I’d have to say…that’s tough…it’s yet to happen [smiles]. So far, I’d say the Karo Parysian fight. Watching the highlights of the fight after - the tooth coming out. Probably the closest thing to a knockout I’ve had in the cage.”

MOST PAINFUL MOMENT: “Getting tired in my earlier fights. Decision to George Santiago. Feeling tired is the worst, the worst feeling in the world that could happen to any fighter.”

WORST INJURY: “Hip injury.”

FAVORITE FIGHTERS TO WATCH: “I really like the jiu-jitsu fighters. But there’s actually not too many who are executing submissions now. Oh, Fedor. My hero. Of course. No doubt. Hands down.”

BEST FIGHTS I’VE SEEN: “That’s a tough one…I’m gonna have to go blank…[pause] I think my fights are the most exciting. Against Nick Diaz or Karo. That’s my opinion. I’m not gonna say Bonner and Griffin like everyone else. Joe Stevenson and Yves Edwards was good. I really enjoy the lightweights.”

BEST FIGHTER TODAY: “Fedor [laughs].”

CHILDHOOD DREAM: “To be a fighter. My dreams are coming true. A warrior, fighter, soldier. Just fighting. Somehow my human intuition told me what I was gonna do.”

FUNNY FIGHTING MEMORY: “I know there is some of those. Here’s one, it’s kind of funny. Before the Nick Diaz fight, I lost my mouthpiece. I remembered I left it back at the house, which was 45 minutes away, on a Friday night with traffic. So we didn’t have time to go back and get it so I had to send one of my friends to go looking for mouthpieces. I had to wear someone else’s dirty, bloody mouthpiece in the fight. And they just got it to me in time. They gave it to me like minutes before I went out. (Whose was it?) Eric Apple’s bloody mouthpiece, so gross. I remember looking at it before washing it off, Man I have to put this in my mouth?!”

EMBARRASSING FIGHTING MEMORY: “I don’t think I’ve had one of those yet, that bad. Maybe being drunk on the show. That was pretty embarrassing. At least I was passed out, instead of doing stupid shit [smiles].”

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: “Definitely Hawaii.”

PEOPLE QUALITIES MOST ADMIRED: “I just like to see positiveness. Love. Positive love. Two of the best things in life. Love. Loving people.”
