Keith Jardine
Biofiles | Published March 8th, 2008

STATUS: UFC Light Heavyweight fighter.

HT: 6-2 WT: 206

DOB: October 31, 1975 IN: Butte, Montana

CHILDHOOD HERO: “Muhammad Ali.”

FIGHT INSPIRATIONS: “I wouldn’t say they are inspirations or that they inspire me to fight but guys I really look up to are Georges St. Pierre, Rich Franklin and B.J. Penn.”

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: “I’m pretty boring, in my spare time I like to visit coffee shops, read a good book, also see films, independent films, foreign films.”

NICKNAMES: “The Dean of Mean, Mean Jardine.”

FAVORITE MOVIES: “I got a bunch of ‘em - No Country For Old Men, Crank, The Big Lebowski, Dead Man.”

FAVORITE TV SHOWS: “Family Guy, South Park.”

MUSICAL TASTES: “Tom Waits, Johnny Cash.”

FIRST JOB: “Just diggin’ ditches for my old man (Dave), he was a plumber. Just tearing up backyards.”

FIRST CAR: “‘94 Ford Ranger (white). I had it up until just last year.”

CURRENT CAR: “1996 Bronco Eddie Bauer (dark brown) - last year it was made. It’s pretty sweet.”

FIRST FIGHTING MEMORY: “My first fight (GC 5 Rumble in the Rockies in Denver 2002 vs. Amir Rahnavardi). I just remember being so pumped up, like I was mad, ready to get into a street fight. Just super, super pumped up. Just cussin’ and spitting and mad with adrenaline flowing. I didn’t really know how to carry myself back then. Luckily, I got an arm-bar in the first round. I remember having so much adrenaline.”

FAVORITE MEAL: “Favorite thing to eat is a cheeseburger and fries but I don’t get to do that often.”

FAVORITE BREAKFAST CEREAL: “Oatmeal. I eat it every single day. (Put anything on it?) Walnuts, dried cranberries, raisins.”

FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR: “Vanilla.”

LAST BOOK READ: “I’m reading a book called ‘The Road’ right now. It’s great. In fact, I was reading it when you called. It’s by Cormac McCarthy. ”

PRE-FIGHT FEELING: “Just go into a fight with a few different keys to think about. Keys on myself, keys in my game-plan. Just keep going over them in my head. And just try and stay calm.”

CHILDHOOD DREAM: “I wanted to play in the NFL as a little kid. (What team? What position?) Raiders, linebacker.”

GREATEST SPORTS MOMENT: “If you’re on the outside looking in, you would say my last fight vs. Chuck would be my greatest moment. The way I look at it, it’s different. I try to put 100% into every fight. So, for me, the greatest moment is the last fight that you won. I try not to make any fight too important. If you look back at your greatest moment it makes you kind of feel like your career is over and you’re looking back on it. I hope to have many more great moments in the future so I try not to focus on ones that I’ve had.”

MOST PAINFUL MOMENT(S): “Fighting with Wilson Gouveia with a bad knee (win by decision in 2006). And he kept kicking at it. I had knee surgery less than a week after.”

WORST INJURY: “That knee injury.”

BEST FIGHT YOU’VE SEEN: “Tough one…nothing is sticking out. I don’t watch a lot of fights. When Randy came out of retirement and beat Tim - that stands out a little bit. Honestly, I’m not really a fight fan. I try not to get caught up in hero worship and stuff like that.”

FUNNY MEMORY: “You got me in the wrong frame of mind [smiles]. I’m getting beat up here in Montreal by Georges St. Pierre. Just got finished with one practice and I’m resting and getting ready to go out for my next one [smiles].”

EMBARRASSING MEMORY: “Honestly, I don’t.”

TOUGHEST MAN FACED: “I couldn’t answer that, man [laughs]. Everybody is tough.”

LAST VACATION: “Puerto Vallarta. I took my girlfriend to Puerto Vallarta after my last fight.”

PEOPLE QUALITIES MOST ADMIRED: “Just a certain amount of integrity, honesty. As I get more popular, people want to be around me for different reasons. I look for real people.”
